Peer support Services
Northern Mosaic Network believes in safe, accessible community support. We are here to help you by listening to your challenges and concerns, providing information, and connecting you with existing programs and services. We may not always have all the answers, but we will always be here to support you.
Here are some of the things we have helped people with through our peer support program:
Identifying resources and support groups for parents of 2SLGBTQIA+ children
Completing name/gender marker change paperwork
Accessing free notary public services
Navigating gender affirming healthcare
Accessing community mental health support services
Identifying affirming services providers
Connecting with other 2SLGBTQIA+ people with shared experiences
Building the confidence to self-advocate
If you need support, please reach out to our Peer Support Coordinator at coordinator@northernmosaic.net. You can connect by phone, text, or video chat, or in-person in Yellowknife.
Please remember that peer support services are not counselling services, and they are not available 24/7. Email is only monitored during office hours (normally 8:30am – 5:00pm, Monday to Friday) and it may take up to five business days to respond to your request.
If you are in immediate distress, please call 911, visit your local health care centre, or reach out to a crisis support line.
Here are a few examples of what your peer support request could look like:
Hello,
I’m looking for some help to figure out how to legally change my name. I would prefer to talk about this over the phone. Can we set up a time for you to call me at (867) 000-000?
Thank you!
Hi there,
My child just told me they are bisexual. I want to be supportive but I’m not sure how to respond! Do you have any resources or support groups to help with this? I’d really appreciate anything that you can send to me by email.
Thanks!
