This workshop introduces participants to the concept of identity within a SOGIE context.
Participants will learn about SOGIE: sexual orientation, gender identity & expression, and become familiar with some SOGIE specific language.
Participants will explore SOGIE-specific prejudice and oppression and how these types of violence impact 2SLGBTQIPA+ communities.
introduction to gender & sex
2 hours
This workshop introduces participants to the complexities and vastness of gender and sex.
Participants will learn about the nuances of biological sex, the way that society impacts our perceptions of gender, and how a person’s experiences might cause them to comprehend gender differently. This workshop does not focus on pronouns or gender inclusive language.
Understanding transgender identities
2 hours
This workshop introduces participants to transgender identities and how trans people might experience transphobia.
Participants will receive a short introduction to trans people’s experiences of transitioning and will learn about proper language use. Participants will learn about how they can challenge transphobia in their communities.
uNDERSTANDING NON-BINARY IDENTITIES
1 hour
This workshop introduces participants to non-binary identities and how non-binary people might experience transphobia and binarism.
Participants will receive a short introduction about the vastness of gender, and will be offered an opportunity to explore the nuances of non-binary identity. This workshop does not focus on pronouns or gender inclusive language.
understanding complexities of gender
2 hours
This workshop expands on the idea of gender attribution, as discussed in previous workshops, and encourages participants to reconsider how we attribute gender to other people.
Participants will get to explore the way that gender attribution impacts them and the people in their lives.
It is highly recommended that participants attend Introduction to Gender & Sex, Understanding Trans Communities before they attend this workshop.
introduction to lgbtqipa+ allyship
1.5 hours
This workshop introduces participants to allyship of LGBTQIPA+ communities. Participants will begin with a quick introduction to 2SLGBTQIPA+ language, and then focus on learning about common mistakes when it comes to working to be an ally to LGBTQIPA+ people.
Participants will have the opportunity to become familiar with gender neutral language and pronouns, and to identify ways that they can be allies to people in their lives.
Supporting my lgbtqipa+ child
2 hours
This workshop is specifically designed for parents who have recently had a child (under 14) come out as LGBTQIPA+, however is open to all those who are hoping to learn about LGBTQIPA+ inclusive parenting.
Participants will be introduced quickly to 2SLGBTQIPA+ language and identities. Most of the session is focused on supportive parenting: exploring and challenging myths, understanding LGBTQIPA+ child’s needs and learning how to support both your children and yourself through this journey.
supporting my LGBTQIPA+ teen
2.5 hours
This workshop is specifically designed for parents who have recently had a teenager (over 12) come out as LGBTQIPA+, however is open to all those who are hoping to learn about LGBTQIPA+ inclusive parenting.
Participants will be introduced quickly to 2SLGBTQIPA+ language and identities. Most of the session is focused on supportive parenting: exploring and challenging myths, understanding LGBTQIPA+ teen’s needs and learning how to support both your teenager and yourself through this journey.
intro to sexuality

This workshop introduces participants to sexuality as a way of socially categorizing people. Participants will explore the history of sexuality, how our understanding of sexuality has shifted over time, and the origins of homosexuality and heterosexuality as concepts. Finally, participants will learn about diverse sexual orientations.
understanding asexuality & aromantic identitY
1 hour
This one hour workshop offers participants a short introduction to sexuality, affectionality and the Split Attraction Model.
Participants will learn about the asexual and aromantic umbrella, and how asexual/aromantic people are impacted by discrimination (aphobia).
understanding non-monogamy and alternative relationship styles
2 hours
This short workshop provides participants an introduction to non-monogamy and alternative relationship styles from the typical monogamous, romantic partnership that most of society is accustomed to.
Participants will learn about amatonormativity, the relationship escalator, and how we can challenge stigma against those who practice consensual non-monogamy.
understanding gay & lesbian identity
1 hour
This one hour workshop offers participants with a short introduction to sexuality, and provides some history of gay and lesbian identity.
Participants will learn the nuances of homophobia and lesbophobia, and brainstorm some ways to challenge homophobia and lesbophobia in our communities.
understanding bisexuality, pansexuality & polysexuality
1 hour
This one hour workshop offers participants a short introduction to the history of bisexuality, and expands participants knowledge about the nuances of different ways that polysexual people might identify.
